Weekly News Updates concerning Landmark HS

Hello,

I'm excited to start the new semester on Tuesday. Students are off on Monday for Chancellor's Day, a citywide day of professional development for high schools. On Tuesday, students will get their new semester schedules upon arrival on the 4th floor and go straight to classes. Wednesday, we are off for Lunar New Year. This holiday is a time of renewal, reflection, and celebration in many cultures around the world, especially in East and Southeast Asia. It is fitting that it comes at the beginning of our semester. We wish a joyous and prosperous Lunar New Year to those who celebrate!

Announcements

Introducing new Parent Coordinator Isa Jimenez-Vasquez (but not saying bye to Raymond!)

We are excited to announce that Isamar Jimenez-Vasquez, a current Landmark paraprofessional, will be stepping into the parent coordinator role. Isa brings a breadth of experience to the role, and has demonstrated her passion for supporting Landmark students and families. She can be reached at ijimenezvazquez@schools.nyc.gov / 212-647-7410 x 3161.  Raymond is transitioning to a community coordinator role at Landmark. You can still reach him at rquinonez@schools.nyc.gov. I am grateful for both of their service at Landmark.

Immigrants Rights Resources

In light of recent threats of increased federal immigration actions in our communities, we reaffirm that New York Schools are remain a safe haven where all students are welcomed and provided a free public education, regardless of immigration status. NYC Public Schools, and Landmark specifically, are committed to protecting the right of every student to attend public school, regardless of immigration status, national origin, or religion. NYCPS does not permit non-local law enforcement agents, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel, to enter schools—except when absolutely required by law. We do not keep records about immigration status.

For resources and information about your rights in an interaction with immigration agents, see the  NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs Know Your Rights with ICE page

If you have any questions or concerns about Landmark protocols, or would like more information or support about your rights outside of school, feel free to contact parent coordinator Isa Jimenez (ijimenezvazquez@schools.nyc.gov) or me directly.
