Melina’s New York Experience Portfolio
Cover Letter:
My name is Melina, I’m in the ninth grade and this is my first year at Landmark. Before I came to Landmark and started going on the New York Experience trips, I knew nothing about the subway system. This is because I had never rode on the subway by myself before. My middle school was only a couple of blocks away from my house, so it wasn’t a big deal but once I was about to enter high school, it was a different story. I would have to learn how to take the subway to school and back home by myself. I was nervous and worried because this was going to be a new expierence for me. On our first field trip I wasn’t excited because I was worried about getting back home without getting lost. Fortunately I didn’t get lost because I left home with a friend. After a few other trips I started to gain more confidence and my worries began to dissapear.
Before the New York Experience trips I didn’t think much about New York. I thought that New York was just like any other city, but now I see the city differently. The New York Exprience trips have shown me that New York is a city full of art, history, architecture, film and information on the enviornment. Trips that I found interesting were The Metropolitan Museum, The Water Exhibit at the Museum of Natural History, The Hall of Human Origins at the Museum of Natural History, Top Of The Rock and the movie “Do The Right Thing”.
These New York Experience trips have taught me a lot of things about New York that I didn’t know before. Maybe by reading my New York Experience Portfolio, you will be able to learn more about New York too.
